As we move further in 2020 we look at the construction industry as a whole and trends that seem prevalent as we continue to forecast the year ahead.

Home Improvements

With more us working from home during the current climate, we are likely to see a larger increase in demand for home improvements. Whether that be a room redesign, refreshing your home with a lick of paint, a kitchen or bathroom renovation, reviving your old decking and endless more ideas.

Technology

With huge advancements in a range of technology, we can see various high-tech machines being adapted within the construction environment. As many automation organisations continue to develop innovative robotic solutions to help construction projects to stay on schedule with more realistic time constraints and within the allocated budget. The benefits of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) within the industry include; aid in reducing waste, costs, accurately forecast with industry data and increase efficiency during repetitive tasks.

As well as robotics, we have seen over the past couple of years the rise of 3D printing. 3D printing constructs three dimensional solid objects by building up the object layer by layer once initially designed by 3D printing experts. On a mass scale, 3D printing could be used to deal with any material shortages or to create bespoke machinery/ tools with minimum wastage.

Construction software

As the level of technology continues to increase in intelligence, we have also seen a new wave in construction software being released. A range of different software, such as building planning technology, customer relationship management (CRM) systems and project management tools help to support growing teams and deliver excellent customer experience to clients.

CRM systems for example, can help many construction businesses to increase the generation of their overall sales and retain their customers through nurturing them throughout their entire customer journey. These types of software can also help with the after-sales processes, which is crucial to build-up long-lasting relationships.

Sustainability

Many customers are now more concerned with climate change and how they can mitigate it as much as possible as a customer. It’s expected that most construction projects, in both the public and private sector, should have sustainable considerations.

Ways construction businesses can adapt to this trend is to seek how they can meet environmental credentials, review their processes and materials used to meet their customers’ needs.

Supporting SMEs

With the trend of utilising local products and services from previous years continuing into 2020, it’s likely that customers will continue to concentrate on their local area. As a result, during 2020, it’s been reported that an increasing procurement for SMEs and tradespeople.
